Steve Umberhant

Obituary Date: Friday, February 21, 2025

Steve Umberhant passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025, at the age of 73. He was born on December 30, 1951, in Seneca, South Carolina, to John Otis Umberhant, Sr. and Dorothy York Umberhant, both of whom have preceded him in death. Steve was also preceded in death by his brother, Danny Umberhant.

Steve dedicated a significant portion of his life to his career at Bentley's Antique Auto, where his passion for antique cars was displayed. Steve was also an avid fisherman, who found great joy in spending quality time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, instilling in them love and appreciation for the outdoors and family traditions.

His military service with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, particularly his time spent in Germany, was a source of pride for Steve. This experience shaped his character and instilled in him values of duty and honor, which he carried throughout his life.

Steve was of the Holiness faith, which illuminated his existence with a sense of purpose and community engagement.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Mary Alice Dodd Umberhant; his two sons, Shaun Umberhant and Jonathan Umberhant; and his daughter, Shannon Lackey, and her husband, Brian. He cherished his role as a grandfather to Dylan Lackey, Meagan Craig and her husband, Robert, Kali Long, and had the pleasure of being a great-grandfather to Brayleigh Shockley, Roman Craig, Ryland Craig, Landry Pirkle, and Maverly Craig. His brother, Rev. John Umberhant, and his sister-in-law, Joann Umberhant, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, continue to hold him close in their hearts.

A visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, March 5, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a memorial service that will begin at 2:00 PM, both taking place at the Cornelia Congregational Holiness Church, located at 362 Galloway Street, Cornelia, GA.  Rev. John Umberhant will officiate with military honors provided by the Grant Reeves Veteran's honor Guard.
