Cynthia "Cindy" von Hohenleiten

Obituary Date: Saturday, February 22, 2025

Cynthia "Cindy" von Hohenleiten, 66, of Gainesville, found peace on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at home in the loving presence of her husband Perry.

Born to Nancy and Ralph Lobmeyr von Hohenleiten on December 4, 1958, in Houston, Texas, Cindy's early life was an adventure that took her from Tennessee to Sheffield, England, and finally to Connecticut. After graduating from New Canaan High School in 1976, she found her calling at Emory University, where she earned her BS in Nursing while making lifelong friends in Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.

At Emory University Hospital, Cindy discovered her true passion: caring for bone marrow transplant patients. For 17 years, she fought alongside her patients, sharing their struggles and victories. Her dedication led her to earn both a Master's in Nursing with honors and a post-master's Nurse Practitioner certificate, establishing herself as a respected figure in Hematology/Oncology nursing.

Life took a beautiful turn in 1998 when Amgen recruited her as a clinical support specialist. This new chapter not only allowed her to educate countless healthcare professionals but also led her to Perry, the love of her life. Their 2001 marriage blessed her with two beloved step-children, Preston and Laura, completing her family picture.

Cindy's zest for life shone brightest on the waters of the Thousand Islands, where she captained the boat while Perry fished for small mouth bass. "The River," as they lovingly called it, became her sanctuary after retiring in 2017. There, she hosted legendary 5 pm cocktail hours and found joy in the simple pleasures of swimming, boating, and sharing laughter with family and friends.

In Gainesville, where she and Perry moved in 2021, Cindy discovered new passions in hiking, painting, and drawing. Her artistic talents blossomed through lessons at The Hudgens Center and Quinlan Visual Arts Center, adding vibrant colors to her retirement years.

Throughout her distinguished career at Amgen, Cindy's excellence earned her numerous accolades, including multiple President's Club honors and recognition in the Chairman's Circle. Yet those who knew her will remember not her professional achievements, but her radiant smile, kind heart, and the warmth she brought to every room she entered.

Cindy leaves behind her devoted husband Perry Hayes; step-children Laura Reich (Justin) and Preston Hayes; grandchildren Ainsley, Colton, and Harrison Reich; brother Christopher von Hohenleiten (Andrea); nephews Chris and Eric Lobmeyr von Hohenleiten; and her beloved cats, Ellie and Mollie.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2025, in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home, with Rev. Dennis Duck officiating.
