Nancy Connell Stanford Davidson August 16, 1941- February 21, 2025, 83 years, of Gainesville, Georgia.
Nancy, Mama, Nanny, Mrs. Lefty, and most affectionately, Beautiful, peacefully joined her Heavenly Father and a host of family and friends before her, on February 21, 2025, surrounded by her devoted husband and family.
The only child of Belle and Emory Stanford, Nancy was born in Suffolk, Virginia on August 16, 1941. When they finally settled in Atlanta at nine years old and in fourth grade at Cascade Heights, Nancy felt like her life really began. This is when Nancy met Lefty, and it was love at first sight. Nancy graduated Southwest High School in 1959 and proudly entered the Atlanta Business School on a full scholarship, all along trying to figure out how to get back to Lefty. After a year, Nancy put aside her business aspirations, enrolled alongside Lefty at the University of Georgia, and pledged Kappa Delta, only to find themselves spending their days holding hands in the dining room of Soule Hall, talking of their future dreams together. With the promise of a ring, Lefty told her if he were to graduate, he would need to attend classes, so they decided she would pack up, find a job and wait on him. Lefty graduated on June 1, 1963, and two weeks later Nancy became Mrs. Charles Wesley Davidson on June 15, 1963.
Mama, Nanny to her grands, was a woman of devotion not only in her faith, but in her love for others. She practiced her Christian faith with both actions and words, praying daily for the joys of her life and those she loved most, her children Jaimie Davidson Harrison (Holt), Kelly Davidson Morgan (Heath) and Charles Wesley “Wes” Davidson, Jr. (Mary Frances) Finding great humor in their daily antics and in constant communication with a barrage of emojis, she adored her eight grandchildren and four great grandsons, Jordan Harrison Newman (Will), Taylor Harrison Cowart (Clayton), Kelly Holt Harrison Siegel (Andrew), Mary Harris Morgan Rich (Carson), Emma Connell Morgan (fiancé Max Wagner), Wesley Stanford “Ford” Morgan, Sarah Warren Davidson, Charles Wesley “Charlie” Davidson III, and her great grandsons, William Ellis “Bo” Newman, Jr., Harrison Wright Newman, Clayton Fletcher Cowart and Arch Andrews Cowart.
You couldn’t have a Mrs. Lefty without her Lefty. Devoted to one another, they were two parts of a whole. Lefty would bring the work, Mrs. Lefty would bring the party. They lived life to the fullest, thinking they had coined the phrase “live, laugh, love.” Multiple state moves and extensive world travels, candlelight dinners alone and cocktail gatherings with friends, slow dances in the kitchen and two-stepping in honky-tonks, they made the most of the days God provided. Her finest title was that of being “Beautiful” to his “Gorgeous.” Each day would begin and end with these words and a kiss, solidifying their love story. They were blessed with 61 years of being Nancy and Lefty, a testament to God’s provisions.
The family would like to thank the doting and compassionate nursing staff at Lanier Village Estates, specifically Gina, Darlene and Penny, her gifted and kind hospice nurse, Kayla, the members of the Aldersgate Sunday School Class of GFUMC, and her family of friends who are providing love and support in unmeasurable ways.
Nancy’s Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 9, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Gainesville First United Methodist Church.
