Thomas M Baker

Obituary Date: Sunday, February 23, 2025

Thomas M Baker, aged 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 23, 2025 in Gainesville, Georgia. Thomas maintained a happy demeanor and blessedly, passed away peacefully in his sleep. Prior to his passing, he met with his preacher and was baptized again, having been baptized as a child. He talked often of going home and was granted this request from his savior whom he loved.

Thomas was born in Ranger, West Virginia, where he grew up and graduated from Guyon Valley High school in Branchland West Virginia. He, along with his eight brothers formed their own baseball team and would go to neighboring counties to challenge players to baseball games during the year.  

Thomas served honorably for the United States Army from October 1956 until 1979 as a helicopter and chinook pilot. He later went on to become an Instructor Pilot after retiring.      He received a Bachelors of Science in Business degree from Troy State University.

He was married to Angie Baker for 48 years before her passing from long-term cancer. He then moved to Gainesville Georgia to be closer to his youngest son and grandchildren. He was a loving and supportive, father. He enjoyed participating in his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and was a big fan of the Auburn Tigers as all 3 of his sons are graduates of AU. 

Thomas is survived by his youngest brother, Stanley Baker of Huntsville Alabama. His other brothers have already gone to their glory before him.

He is also survived by his daughter, Dorraine Baker Webb and her husband Mark and their 3 children (Sydney, Camden and Devin), his son Patrick Baker  and wife Gena and their 3 children (Zack (wife Star and son Rohan), Ana and Sophia), and his youngest son and primary caregiver Eric Baker and wife Nicole and their 2 sons Thomas and Caleb. His eldest son, Jacob predeceaed Thomas. Jacob’s wife Allyson and their 2 children Savanna with husband Collin and their 3 children (Charles, Collin Jr and Magnolia Mae) along with Jacob’s son Axel are also remembered. He has many nieces and nephews that were dear to Thomas and remembered fondly.

During the last few months of Thomas’s life, he was under the care of Golden Rule Hospice who were wonderful in their care of him.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity, Golden Rule Hospice or  your favorite animal shelter. Thomas was a big dog lover and would be so happy with more care for these animals.
