Stanford “Stan” Nelson Lee

Obituary Date: Friday, February 21, 2025

Stanford “Stan” Nelson Lee, 86, of Buford, GA peacefully passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025. Born on May 4, 1938, Stan was part of the Lee family after whom Lee Drive was named. He remained there until his illness required him to move to hospice care. Mr. Lee was a graduate of Flowery Branch High School and studied refrigeration at Lanier Technical School. He worked as an insurance and annuity agent throughout his life. However, his true passion was his love of the fiddle. He picked up his first fiddle at age 13, and never wanted to put it down again. Although he was multi-talented, also skilled in playing bass and saxophone, he always had a special love for the violin. His love of music took him to great places. He played with Patsy Cline on one of her tours, and then regularly traveled with the Elmer Snodgrass Band. He was also a member of the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame, in the Hillbilly Western Swing category. He was a lifetime member of Mt. Salem Baptist Church and enjoyed attending and teaching Sunday school. Throughout decades of his life, he struggled with prostate cancer. In his memory, the family requests that any applicable patients regularly get screened and schedule routine prevention exams. While his family mourns, we always remember his favorite saying, “This too shall pass.” He was preceded in death by his parents, Booker and Floyce Lee; sister, Norma McDonald; brothers, Doug and Bobby Lee; and his loving wife of 48 years, Eloise Lee. He leaves to cherish his memories and music his daughter and spouse, Constance and Terry Reece; his granddaughter and longtime caretaker, Meredith Pruitt; his son, Steve Allen; his nephews, Cliff, Mike and David McDonald and Rusty Lee; his nieces, Michelle Scoggins and Cheryl Gravitt; his great-nephew and spouse, Corey and Kimberly McDonald; his step grandchildren, Tiffany Reece, Kristi and Seth Perkins, and Lee and Amanda Reece; several great-grandchildren; and numerous other dear friends and relatives.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 23, at Flanigan Funeral Home in Buford, GA with Rev. Terry Reece officiating. Interment will follow at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens in Buford. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, February 23, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., time of the Service.

Donations may be made in his memory to Huthmaker Violins, Everett’s Music Barn, Mt. Salem Baptist Church, or The Prostate Cancer Foundation.
