It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Hazel Ann Washington, who departed this life on February 15, 2025, at the age of 84. Born in Hartwell, Georgia, to the late Jeff and Classie (Rice) Johnson, Hazel grew up in Lavonia, Georgia, where she attended school.
Hazel was a woman of strong faith, dedicating much of her life to prayer, reading her Bible, and sharing the word of God with those around her. She was never afraid to speak her mind and always stood firm in her beliefs. Her wisdom, love, and unwavering spirit touched the lives of many.
During her life she worked in the nursing home and as a caregiver. She was a member of the DCOF jail outreach ministry and did street ministry. Also, a member of Restoration Breakthrough Ministry for over 40 years.
She was united in marriage to William Washington, with whom she shared a lifetime of love until his passing. Hazel was preceded in death by her beloved husband ( William Washington), her parents ( Jeff Johnson and Classie Johnson), 3 children ( 1 son Lee Washington, 2 daughters Etrulyia Washington, and Christine Washington),and 13 siblings—11 sisters and two brothers.
She leaves behind a loving legacy in her four children: Jesse Johnson( Joann Johnson), Ann Rucker, Kaydell Wallace ( James Wallace), and Owen Washington. Her memory will also live on through her 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews all of whom she cherished deeply.
Hazel Ann Washington will be remembered for her faith, her strength, and the boundless love she gave to her family and community. While we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the lasting impact she had on those who knew her.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Antioch Baptist Church, 1010 Mill Stret, Gainesville, GA 30501 at 12:00 PM. The viewing will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Wimberly Funeral Home, 325 Summit Street, Gainesville, GA 30501 between the hours of 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM.
