Cletus Dumas

Cletus Dumas was born in the village of La Plaine, Dominica on March 23rd, 1948 to Anastasie Laudat and Rupert dumas. When the neighbors asked Anastasie what baby she had given birth to, her reply was “a boy”. From then on, he was affectionately called a-boy.

Mr. Dumas grew up close to relatives, always helping around the house with chores and gardening. He attended the La Plaine primary school and went on to become a skillful farmer.

He got married to Gertrude (now deceased) in 1976 and together they raised four daughters. Mr. Dumas was a true provider, not just for his immediate family but for his relatives, his neighbors and the vulnerable in his community. His hands were blessed to produce the best ground provisions and vegetables and he was all about sharing his harvested crops.

Mr. Dumas migrated to the United States in 2006 along with his wife Gertrude and youngest daughter Tristelle. He worked on the golf courses in Florida doing the outdoor work that he enjoyed. He and his wife relocated to the United States Virgin Islands several years later where he worked as a warehouse associate before retiring and moving back home. He continued to enjoy backyard farming and visiting the persons in his community. He travelled back and forth between the island and the United States where his kids and grandkids reside. He always brought joy to the hearts of many and will be remembered for his hearty laughter.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel. Pastor Gilbert Cuffy will officiate. Interment will follow at Hamilton Mill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday, February 22, 2025 from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
