Carolyn Jacobs

Obituary Date: Thursday, February 6, 2025

Carolyn Jacobs, 99, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2025. A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Carolyn was loved by all who knew her.

Born in Centerville, Georgia, on November 8, 1925, Carolyn has called Gainesville home since 1958. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Gainesville where she served on the Flower Committee for many years sharing her love of flowers and talent for arranging with her church family. She was a member of the Koinonia Sunday School class. She also served for many years on the board of the Northeast Georgia History Center.

Carolyn was married for more than 70 years to local architect N. A. Jacobs. She was a faithful correspondent to N.A. when he was a Navy pilot stationed overseas during World War II, and they married soon after he returned home. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a Home Economics degree and taught preschool for many years. She raised three children in Gainesville and later hosted Camp Carolyn for all her grandchildren each summer. She was a shrewd card player and a consummate hostess.

Loved and cherished by all who knew her, Carolyn will be missed by her children and their families:  Deems Wilson, Sr., husband of her late daughter, Jean, Van Wilson and Robin Johnston with Ben and Jessie, Deems Wilson, Jr., and John and Catherine Eagan with Emma Jean and Eliza; Greg and Gay Jacobs, Chris and Julie Schaefer with Kinsley and Conner, and Jared and Jennifer Cullifer with Beau; Stephen and Karla Jacobs with Abby and Daniel; and her sister Becky Page. She was preceded in death by her daughter Jean, her beloved N.A., her sister Marilyn, and her parents Wideman and Maude Mason.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Ministry of Caring or the Flower Committee at First Baptist Church, 751 Green Street NW, Gainesville, GA 30501. Checks should be made to First Baptist Church and include “In Memory of Carolyn Jacobs” and the fund name in the memo.

A memorial service will be held in the First Baptist Church chapel on Friday, February 21, 2025 at 3 pm.  The family will receive friends in the Parlor following the service.
