Johnny Claud Hughes, Sr.

Johnny Claud Hughes, Sr., 72 of Flowery Branch passed away Friday February 7, 2025, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center-Gainesville.

Johnny was born and raised on a farm in Oakwood, GA and had 4 brothers and 4 sisters and he was the 9th child born. John Claud Hughes went by Johnny but grew up his entire life with the nickname "Whitey" due to his snow-white hair as a child and young adult.  He began working for Big Star Grocery Store in Gainesville, GA in the early 70's and moved up to Crew Manager. After that he went to work for Northeast Sales Distributing Company as a Salesman in the 80's and 90's.  Johnny finished out his career in Storage Unit Management and retired.

Johnny was an avid fan of the Atlanta Falcons, loved the Georgia Bulldogs and enjoyed trout fishing, visiting Daytona Beach and the mountains.

Survivors include his son, John Claud Hughes, Jr., daughter, Tricia Hughes Ruth (Sean), grandchildren, Sydney Hughes, Hayden Hughes, Mary Carter Ruth and Tate Ruth, brother, Ray Hughes, sisters, Alice Hughes and Hazel Hughes Roosevelt, sister-in-law, Polly Hughes and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Johnny is preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Eva Hope Hughes, brothers, Harold Hughes, Alvin Hughes and Billy Hughes, sister and brother-in-law, Bernice Hughes Fortner and Harold Fortner, sister, Linda Hughes, brother-in-law, Michael Roosevelt and sister-in-law, Frances Hughes. 

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 17, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home in Gainesville, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow the service at the Oakwood Cemetery.
