Jeanette Smith

Obituary Date: Saturday, February 8, 2025

Jeanette Smith, 68, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away suddenly on February 8th, 2025, leaving heartbreak in her wake. Jeanette, endearingly called “Nana,” was born July 23rd, 1956, in Gainesville, Georgia to Annie and Joel Cleveland. She attended Brenau and Walden Universities, where she earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education, respectively. Jeanette leaves behind her adored husband of nearly 38 years, Danny Smith; her treasured eldest daughter, Amanda Harris, alongside her cherished son-in-law, Bud Harris; and her two precious granddaughters, Laney and Lola Harris. Jeanette also leaves behind her deeply valued middle daughter, Lyndsay Smith, as well as her much loved son-in-law, CJ Allen; her prized youngest daughter, Kayla Smith; in addition to her highly regarded niece, Michelle Williams, whose father, Jeanette’s brother, preceded Jeanette in death a few years ago, along with Michelle’s sweet husband David Williams; her dear great-niece Savannah Williams; and her adorable great-great nephews Landon, Connor, and Koda Adams. Jeanette had such a heart for young children and teaching throughout her life. She spent nearly 15 years driving a school bus and then about 15 more educating young children in many schools across and outside of Hall County, touching the hearts of each one along the way. In her free time, Jeanette loved to travel with her beloved husband. With Danny by her side, she traveled to 49 states in the U.S. and was no stranger to traveling abroad. Inarguably, though, her favorite place to travel was the beach. She enjoyed walking, wading, and reading by the ocean. When she wasn’t dipping her toes in the salty water, lounging by the pool, or exploring the world, Jeanette had an incredible green thumb and knack for gardening.

A Funeral Service will be held at NorthStar Family Church in Flowery Branch on Friday, February 14th at 1:00 p.m., with Dr. Russell Harbin and Dr. Bart McMillan officiating. A viewing service will be held at Flanigan Funeral Home in Buford on Thursday, February 13th, 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where close friends and family are welcome to say goodbye. Jeanette will also Lie in State at the Church prior to the funeral from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Flowers are welcomed however, if preferred, donations may be made in Jenette Smith’s memory to NorthStar Family Church, 3622 Atlanta Hwy., Flowery Branch, GA 30542.

Jeanette touched many lives, but especially the lives of those lucky enough to be unconditionally loved by her. It is an understatement to say Jeanette will be missed, as to know Jeanette was to truly love her.
