Edward was a United States Army Veteran Sharpshooter. Awarded the Good Conduct Medal.
Edward was also a Merchant Marine. He was aboard the USNS Private William H. Thomas, Rixey that aided in the rescue of passengers from the stricken SS Andrea Doria which subsequently sank.
The Thomas was the second ship to arrive at the rescue and took command of the rescue operations until the arrival of the ILe De France several hours later.
What meant most the most to him was the love and time spent with his family.
After family first, what fed his soul was two wheels. Edward had a love for riding motorcycles for 66 years. His friend who turned 100 years old in 2023 coined the phrase” If the suns out Eds out”. Edward and Angie retired to Georgia to be close to their daughter Diane, Joseph and multiple fur grand-doggies. They loved Georgia and the warm weather. The phrase Southern Hospitality is true. They made many new good friends, who welcomed them warmly even though they were Northerners.
After 53 years of marriage Angie passed in 2020. Edward said I love her dearly and miss her terribly. He showed strength and resilience carrying on with his happy memories of their life together. He spoke often of his friends with gratitude. It meant the world to him that they gave him their time, love and fellowship. Be Kind Be Happy.
