Mary Ruth Jackson was born in Jackson County on April 5, 1943. She departed this world on January 31, 2025 at the age of 81. She graduated at Bryan High School in Jefferson Ga. Mary was the daughter of the late Summie and Annie Jackson. She was raised in Commerce, GA.
She accepted Christ at a young age, and later joined St. Paul First Baptist Church where she served in the missionary department, senior choir and youth department. She was a faithful servant in her church duties. She retired from Lucent Technologies after 30 years of service. Mary also supported many charitable causes. Her favorite hobbies included working in her yard, traveling and fishing.
She was preceded in death by five brothers; Leroy (Peacemaker), Cecil, Wilmer, Melvin, Eddie, Donald and one sister: Jean Tarpkins.
Mary Ruth is survived by two daughters: Veleta Adams of Jefferson, GA, Valerie Whitehead (Sebastian) of Marrietta, GA, three sisters: Annie Maude Hughey (Willie) of Jefferson, GA., Carolyn Watson of Gainesville, GA, Johnnie Mosley (Ted) of Athens, GA, one brother: Franklin Lester (Delores), two sisters-in-law: Donna, Elaine and one brother-in-law Rev. Roy L. Tarpkins.
Mary had four grand-children and one great-grandchild. She also leaves behind a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at St. Paul Baptist Church, Jefferson, GA at 12:00 noon. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025, at St. Paul Baptist Church between the hours of 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Family will receive friends between the hours of 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM.
