Betty Jo McClure Eades, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away peacefully at her home on January 30, 2025, just two weeks shy of her 92nd birthday.
Betty was born February 13, 1933 in Hall County, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Claude and Lillie (Forest) McClure. Betty grew up on her family’s dairy farm in Oakwood, Georgia, as the youngest of five children.
On July 5, 1953, Betty married Bennie Eades, with whom she shared a long and loving marriage of 38 years when Bennie passed away in 1991. Together, they owned and operated B & L Grocery in Gainesville alongside their partners, Lewis and Juanita Stewart, during the late 1960’s and 1970’s. Betty cherished her time working with customers and had a remarkable ability to brighten people’s days with her sense of humor.
Betty’s career began in the early 1950’s at Southern Bell, but her true calling was in helping others. After retiring in the late 1970’s, she dedicated herself to her community, always ready to lend a hand. Betty was known for her generosity, whether it was through visiting and supporting church committees, bringing food to those in need, or spending time with shut-ins. She frequently took elderly friends for rides through the beautiful North Georgia Mountains, a place she dearly loved.
Betty was a fun-loving individual who accumulated many friends over the years, sharing countless good times. She and her son Bruce would always laugh and tease each other on their calls and weekly drives. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, making cherished memories around the holidays with her famous potato salad, chicken dumplings and peanut butter pies. Regular visits with her daughter Becky and son-in-law Greg were a highlight, where they would enjoy coffee and sometimes supper on the front porch.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Becky Olson and husband Greg, her son Bruce Eades and wife, Polly, her sister Dean Holcomb, and her beloved grandchildren, Anna Eades, Benjamin Eades and David Eades, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Bennie and siblings, Irene Britt, Kathleen McClure, and Claude McClure, Jr.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Betty’s caregivers: Rita, Annie, Mozelle, Christa, and Linda, for their kindness and support.
Betty Jo McClure Eades will be remembered for her unwavering generosity, her love for family and friends, and her ability to bring joy to those around her. She will forever be in our hearts.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 am Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Memorial Park Riverside Chapel with the funeral service to follow in the Chapel at 11:30 am. Interment will be in Alta Vista Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lumpkin Campground C/O Brian Martin Treasure, 4945 Hubert Martin Road, Cumming, GA, 30028 or Eagle Ranch, reflecting Betty’s lifelong commitment to helping other.
