Obituary Date: Monday, January 20, 2025

Ann Louise Dobson Gage

10/10/1936 – 1/20/2025

Ann Dobson Gage, a woman whose life was defined by grace and kindness, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2025, at Lanier Village Estates in Gainesville, Georgia.  She was born and raised by Herbert and Sylvia Dobson in Westerly, Rhode Island. After graduation from Westerly High School, Ann attended Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio where she earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology. While at BWC, she was a member of Delta Zeta sorority and was elected Homecoming Queen. Following graduation, she served as the first Director of Ladies and Girls Services at Central YMCA in Painesville, Ohio and later worked as a teacher in the Painesville Township School District. It was in Ohio where Ann met her future husband, Ralph Gage. After marrying, Ann and Ralph moved to Portland, Oregon for several years and eventually relocated to Stone Mountain, Georgia, where they raised four children.

Ann was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, whose love and wisdom enriched the lives of those who knew her. She devoted her life to helping others and was passionate about taking on projects that benefited her children’s schools and youth activities. Ann also enjoyed working on behalf of State Representative and Senator Joe Burton during the 1970s and 1980s.

Following retirement, Ann and Ralph moved full-time to the Gainesville area where they became active in the community and joined Gainesville First United Methodist Church. Ann served on the women’s council and oversaw the church library. They eventually moved to Lanier Village Estates where Ann lent her support to the local homeless shelter and could often be found in the Puzzle Room with her dear friend Jane Bell.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Ralph Gwynn Gage and daughter Debra Jean Gage. She is survived by her children Beth Ann Hamil (Mike) of Knoxville, Tennessee; Amy Gage Weber (Brian) of Braselton, Georgia; and Jon Gwynn Gage (Rhonda) of Pass Christian, Mississippi. She is lovingly remembered by extended family including Richard Grenfell of Decatur, Alabama, her seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Ann’s life will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Lanier Village Estates Chapel in Gainesville, Georgia.
