Ophelia “Pete” Ivester Spivey

Ophelia “Pete” Ivester Spivey, age 83, of Cornelia, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.

Born on August 10, 1941, in Habersham County, she was a daughter of the late Julian Eugene Ivester and Beulah Shirley Ivester.  Pete was a graduate of Tallulah Falls High School and retired from Georgia Mountain Community Services. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, doting grandmother, and great-grandmother. Pete was always a hard worker and well known for her famous homemade banana pudding. In her spare time, she enjoyed crafting and flower gardening. Pete was a faithful member of Shirley Grove Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Hank Ivester.

Survivors include her husband, Bob Spivey; son and daughter-in-law, F. Brian Spivey (Lisa); daughter, Teresa “Nita” Spivey Thompson; grandchildren, Eric Spivey, Joshua Spivey (Amanda), Cole Spivey (Bethany), Kayla Pharris (Mitchell), Kelly Henry (David), and Heath Thompson (Ariel); great grandchildren, Rowan, Chastyn, Kenslie, Wynter, Silas & Parker; brother and sister-in-law, Hugh Ivester (Opal); sisters and brothers-in-law, Bitsy Demore (Michael), Julia Ivester, Joan McCall (Wendell), Gladys Moore (Gene), Barbara Oaks, and Wanda Hall (Dill); a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 30, 2025 at Shirley Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Gravely officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Rev. Madison McCrackin officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.
