Mr. John “Jack” Anthony Sweeney, age 88 of Hoschton, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Chestnut Mountain Presbyterian Church with interment following at Chestnut Mountain Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Rev. John Batusic & Pastor Jason Cunningham will officiate. The family will hold a reception for friends following the service at the church.
Jack was born September 9, 1936 in Philly, Pennsylvania to Bernard Edward Sweeney & Loretta Catherine Folds Sweeney and was the baby of six children. He was a member of Chestnut Mountain Presbyterian Church for twenty-seven years and served as an elder, Sunday school teacher, mission conference chairman, and hospitality committee chairman during his years there. He also went on several mission trips to Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria, and Hungary. He dearly loved traveling to the Oulde Sod on seven occasions. Jack proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corps Reserves.
He was a husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and is survived by his wife, Sue Sweeney; daughters, Shawn (John) Hare & Shannon Sweeney; grandchildren, Evan Thomas (Ashley) Hare, Taylor Anthony Hare, Christopher George (Maggie) Hare, Eliza Faith Hare, Emma Catherine (Noah) Simpson, Harriet Rose Hare, James Edward Hare, Hunter Blair Harthun, Hylton Matthew Davis, John Hayden Davis, & Harper Lea Davis; and great-grandson, Bennett Thomas Hare. He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings.
