Marsha Anne Herrick Miller Brown
Marsha Brown went to be with Jesus on January 20, 2025, at the age of 87. She passed peacefully in her Jefferson, Georgia, home, surrounded by beloved family.
Marsha was a wonderful wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She was affectionately known as “Nana” by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Marsha was preceded in death by her parents, Nadine VanPatten Herrick and Allyn M. Herrick, her first husband Kenneth Miller, Sr., her grandson Evan William Joins, her older sister Kay Herrick Misner Giles, her devoted husband Willis Brown, to whom she was married for 40 years, her beloved companion dog, “Sparky”, and her younger sister Cindy Herrick Rowe.
Marsha is survived by her children and their spouses, Anne Quirk Chafee (Jody), Kim Miller Joins (Randal), Ken Miller, Jr. (Peggy), Stephen Miller (Lisa), and Kevin Miller; sister Deverah Herrick Bianco (Sal); stepchildren Mary Brown Whitlock (Jeff) and Carol Brown Altmiller (Joe); 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Marsha was an Indiana native, born on November 16, 1937, in Lafayette. Marsha graduated from West Lafayette Senior High School and continued her education at Purdue University, where she studied Home Economics, Merchandising, and Child Development.
As a homemaker and housewife, Marsha raised four children, while working and supporting her husbands’ endeavors. After moving to Georgia in 1977, Marsha was employed as the Assistant County Clerk and Personnel Clerk for the Jackson County Commissioners office in Jefferson, GA, for nine years. She then worked as a Personnel Clerk for Combustion Technologies in Flowery Branch for a short time before becoming a teller at First Commerce Bank in Jefferson. Marsha spent a number of years working in retail, including Thurmond’s Clothing in Jefferson and the London Fog, Maidenform, and other outlets at Tanger in Commerce, as she enjoyed helping others and making new friends and acquaintances along the way.
In retirement, Marsha enjoyed years of gardening, fishing, flea marketing, taking beach vacations, and planning large family gatherings.
In lieu of flowers, and at Marsha’s request, memorial gifts may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org/give).
