Damien Truett Hudson, aged 91, passed away peacefully on January 15th, 2025, in Hoschton, Georgia. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who left a mark on everyone who knew him. He will be remembered for his warmth, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family.
Damien was born in Newport, Tennessee to Gordon Ledbetter and Minnie Huser Ledbetter. He grew up surrounded by love and was one of six children.
Damien graduated from the Woodrow Wilson School of Law in 1953, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree. That same year, he answered the call of duty and enlisted in the United States Army. He proudly served his country before being honorably discharged in 1955. Throughout his military service, Damien was awarded several distinctions, including the Army Occupation Medal (Germany), the National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
In 1959, Damien married the love of his life, Ethel Jeanette Seals, in a ceremony filled with love and joy. Together, they raised three children and shared a remarkable 65 years of marriage. Their enduring partnership was a testament to their love and commitment to one another. Over the years, their family grew to include ten grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.
Damien’s career was marked by his dedication and hard work. He enjoyed a long and successful tenure in sales at Pittman Printing. After retiring from Pittman Printing, Damien found a new way to give back to his community by working as a substitute teacher at Russell Middle School in Barrow County, Georgia. His warm demeanor and approachable nature made him a beloved figure among both staff and students. Many of the students affectionately referred to him as “Grandpa Hudson,” a reflection of the deep connection he formed with them.
Outside of his professional life, Damien was known for his infectious sense of humor and his caring spirit. He had a love for dancing with his wife Jeanette. He also delighted in singing and yodeling for his grandchildren, creating memories that will last a lifetime. Damien enjoyed hosting pool parties, where friends and family gathered to celebrate life and share laughter. He found peace and solace in nature, spending countless hours tending to his garden and watching the birds that visited his yard.
Damien’s life was one of service, love, and joy. His kindness touched the lives of all who knew him, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Services to celebrate Damien’s life will be at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel with internment at Georgia National Cemetery. Date and time for services will be announced at a later date. The family invites all those whose lives were touched by Damien to join them in honoring his memory.
