Callie Mae Evelyn (Thurmond) Woodford was born August 25, 1931, to the late Monroe and Fannie Thurmond in Barrow County, Georgia. She departed this life on January 17, 2025, after a brief illness, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia.

Callie moved to Gainesville at a young age, married, and had four children whom she leaves behind to cherish her memory: Charles (Sandra) Lipscomb, Eddie (Andrea) Lipscomb, Kiawanne (William) Scott, and Octavia (Linwood) Burns.

Callie started out working at Piedmont Poultry and soon was inspired to become a Beautician. She became a licensed stylist and started her beauty salon which was named La Hair Affair. She became known around the Gainesville area as the beautician who could make your hair grow. She had a thriving salon business for over 5 decades and gave many opportunities to others interested in starting their career in Cosmetology. She was also a great seamstress and an excellent cook, creating many memories with her family and friends. Callie participated as a model many times in local fashion shows wearing clothes she fashioned and produced herself.

Callie was always selfless and giving. She helped many people and made a positive impact on many lives in the Gainesville community and beyond.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers: Floyd Thurmond, Almond Thurmond, Hubert Lee Thurmond, Aaron Thurmond, and Roosevelt Thurmond, and one grandson: William Alexander Scott, V.

She leaves behind 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; her special goddaughter, Gloria McCluskey; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
