Dorothy Sue Hope Ware, age 76, of Gainesville, Georgia passed away on January 16, 2025 after an extended illness.
She was born in Gainesville, GA on October 12, 1948 to Edgar Milton Hope and Martha Storey Hope of Gainesville, GA. She was married to Robert Rigdon Ware of Cave Spring, GA from 1970 to 1972 and had one daughter, Martha Frances.
Sue graduated from Gainesville High School in 1966 and was a 1972 graduate of Brenau College, earning her Batchelor of Arts and Masters in Early Childhood Education. She was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. Sue was a career educator, starting as the Director, of Magic Years of Learning. The majority of her thirty-two year teaching career was spent working for the Gainesville City School System, first teaching seventh grade at Gainesville Middle School and then first grade at Enota Elementary School. During her time as a teacher, she was named Teacher of the Year and she and her class appeared on the “Good Morning America” television show.
In her private life Sue was a devoted daughter and mother and faithful servant of the Lord. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Gainesville where she not just attended services but also volunteered. Sue also loved animals and absolutely adored her two miniature schnauzers, Marci and Maddie. She was a lifelong equestrain and horse enthusiast, riding and showing her beloved paint horse, Invest in the Goods (Toby). Perhaps most of all, Sue absolutely adored fashion and all of its iterations. From perusing glossy magazines to shopping for the perfect pair of high-heeled pumps, Sue as always on-trend and smartly turned out and never, ever, was without her signature hats and red lipstick.
Sue is survived by her sister, Marian Hope Finco of Watkinsville, GA and her daughter, Franci Wayland, her son-in-law Hank Wayland of Millwood, VA, her cousin Dell Tate Storey of Jefferson, GA and cousins Walter and Jo Storey of Jefferson, GA, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Please join us on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at 1:00 for visitation at Memorial Park Riverside Chapel, 989 Riverside Drive, Gainesville, GA 30501, followed by a graveside service at Alta Vista Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1397 Thompson Bridge Road, Gainesville, GA 30501.
