J.W. Sims, Jr., born January 20, 1945, in Jackson County, Georgia to James Willie and Annie B. Sims, peacefully transitioned from this life on January 10, 2025. A proud graduate of Glenwood High School's Class of 1964, J.W. carried his passion for sports into adulthood, having been a talented basketball player during his school years. He later became a beloved coach in his community, where his competitive spirit and dedication to excellence earned his basketball and softball teams numerous trophies over the years. J.W. was a hardworking and dedicated employee of General Motors, where he worked for many years before retiring. He was known for his vibrant storytelling, a sharp wit that kept everyone laughing, and a deep and abiding love for his family. At a young age, J.W. joined Fairfield Missionary Baptist Church. His legacy is one of kindness, humor, and a heart full of love for those he held dear. J.W. was preceded in death by his parents, James Willie and Annie B. Sims. He leaves behind a loving family, including his children: Donna Simmons of Duluth, GA, Deidra (John) Jackson of Winder, GA, and Shamont Winfrey of Bethlehem, GA. He was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. He is also survived by his siblings: Joann (Willie) Stevenson of Danielsville, GA; Jimmy (Brenda) Sims of Statham, GA; Joyce (Alfornzo) Jones of Jonesboro, GA; and Johnette (Donald) Cotton of Colbert, GA. His lifelong friend, Lonnie Chandler, Jr of Statham, GA, close cousins Almond Sims, Jr. of Cincinnati, OH, and Emma L. Sims of Statham, GA. J.W. will be deeply missed by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. J.W.'s warmth, humor, and competitive spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His family and friends take comfort in knowing that his legacy of love and laughter will endure for generations to come.
