John Binion Woodcock III

Obituary Date: Sunday, January 12, 2025

It is with deep sadness that the family of John Binion Woodcock III (Johnny), announces his passing.   Johnny passed away at his residence on Sunday, January 12, 2025, following a period of declining health.

Born on February 8, 1947, to the late John Binion Woodcock II and the late Louise Rogers Woodcock, Johnny was a lifelong resident of Gainesville, Georgia.  He attended Gainesville High School and Admiral Farragut Academy in St. Petersburg, Florida, before returning to Gainesville High to graduate with the class of 1965.  Johnny earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from The University of Georgia in 1972, and he was an enthusiastic and devoted Bulldog fan.

After exploring various professions, Johnny spent most of his career working with Crawford & Company as an insurance adjuster.

Johnny was known for his fun-loving nature, spirited personality, and sharp wit.  He cherished the time with family and friends, always bringing laughter to those around him.  Whether on a boat or enjoying the beach, he felt most at home by the water, especially in his beloved second home of St. Simons Island, Georgia.  Music was another of his great passions, and he was rarely without it.  Johnny’s kindness, generosity, and deep love for his family and friends left a lasting impact.  He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.

Johnny is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 36 years, Debbie Jacobs Woodcock, Courtenay Wishousky (stepdaughter), Jake Wishousky (step grandson), Larry Woodcock (brother), Brian Woodcock (nephew) and wife Jacqueline Navarro, Jennifer Woodcock (niece).

We would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to Anslee Wilson and her dedicated staff at A Helping Hand Home Care, who provided exceptional care for Johnny over the past several years.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2025, from 1pm – 3pm at The Chattahoochee Country Club in Gainesville, Georgia.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Humane Society of Hall County, 845 W. Ridge Road, Gainesville, GA 30501. www.humansocietyofnortheastgeorgia.org . or to a charity of your choice.
