Ann Collins Lawson

Obituary Date: Monday, January 13, 2025

Ann Collins Lawson, age 86, of Dahlonega, Georgia, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025. Born in Dahlonega to the late Johnnie Collins and the late Nettie Rider Collins, Ann lived a life filled with love, service, and an unwavering dedication to her family and community. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Zachary Tritt; brother, JD Collins; and sisters, Bessie Grizzle, Jesse Lee Grizzle, and Kathy Royster.

Ann is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, Bill Lawson, affectionately known as "Abboo," of Dahlonega; daughters, Sheila (John) Litherland of Dawsonville and Lori (Grady) Vickery of Dahlonega; siblings, Bonnell Davis, Betty Jarrard, Barbara (Walter) Norrell, CF Collins (Geraldine), Hazel Norrell; grandchildren, Joshua Litherland, Michaela Litherland, Jordan (Jamie) Miller, and Neylan (Jordan) Fife; and great-grandchildren, Elijah Miller and Jayden Miller. She is also survived by sister-in-laws Jean Hinken, Georgia Milam, and Dorothy Chadwick (Jerry); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and other cherished relatives.

Ann was truly one of a kind. Known for her stubborn independence, she was a force to be reckoned with and a source of inspiration to all who knew her. Her life was a testament to resilience, love, and community spirit. Ann had a passion for flowers and traveling, and she adored bringing her loved ones together around her table to share the meals she so lovingly prepared. Her love for cooking was a cornerstone of her life and a gift to everyone who had the pleasure of enjoying her meals.

A proud and active resident of Lumpkin County, Ann's contributions to her community were profound. She was instrumental in bringing women's softball to Lumpkin County, a legacy that will continue to benefit generations to come. Alongside her beloved husband, she was honored as King and Queen of Gold Rush, a testament to their impact on their community. Ann was actively involved in numerous organizations, including the JC’s, Helping Hands Ministries, and the Chamber of Commerce. Her entrepreneurial spirit was evident throughout her life, as she opened and operated several businesses in Lumpkin County. Despite never leaving Lumpkin County until she accompanied Bill to Germany during his military service, Ann’s experiences abroad sparked a lifelong love for travel and new adventures.

Visitation for Ann Collins Lawson will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home in Dahlonega, Georgia. The family invites all who knew and loved Ann to come and celebrate her remarkable life.
