Billy Augustus Peeples

Mr. Billy Augustus Peeples, age 90, of Braselton, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Billy was born on Friday, November 30, 1934, to Mr. Idus Hudson Peeples and Mrs. Suzie Thomas Peeples in Vaughn, Georgia. He attended Spalding County High School and Griffin High School where he was a standout athlete in both football and track and field.  In 1954, he was the Most Valuable Player for the Griffin High Football Team and selected to the Atlanta Journal and Associated Press All State Football teams. He also placed fourth in the broad jump at the State of Georgia High School Track Meet that same year. He went on to play football for Auburn University his freshman year.  In 2000, he was inducted into the Griffin-Spalding County Athletic Hall of Fame for Football.

He was a 29-year employee of Crompton Highland Mill in Griffin, Ga before opening Peeples Cotton Company until his retirement. He was also a long-time member of The First Baptist Church of Griffin.  Billy was also an avid golfer and served one term as President of the Griffin County Club.  As a scholarship donor to Auburn University, Billy was able to provide multiple athletes the opportunity to graduate from college.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years Faye Caldwell Peeples, sister Shirley Peeples Thacker, son Barry and Dawn Peeples. Grandchildren Adam and Cadence Peeples, Mark and Catherine Walls, Aaron Peeples, Jordan Peeples and Joseph Bryan, Alexis Walls. Great grandchildren Amelia Peeples,  Stella Peeples and Skylar Findich.

Along with his parents, Billy is preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters. Son Joseph Mark Peeples and grandson Justin Mark Peeples.

The family will receive guests for a visitation on January 24, 2025 from 1pm to 3pm at The Memorial Park Braselton Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that Tax deductible donations be made to the Justin Peeples Memorial c\s Scholarship Fund at Southern Crescent Technical College, 501 Varsity Drive Griffin, GA 30223, in his honor.
