Mrs. Charlotte P. Hancock, age 93, originally of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025, surrounded by family. Mrs. Hancock was born on June 8, 1931, to the late Robert Lynn Prather and Grace Crittenden Prather. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 42 years, William Kyle “Bill” Hancock, and her cherished older brother, Robert Lynn “Bob” Prather, Jr.
Charlotte‘s life revolved around her love for Jesus Christ and her love for her family. All of her life, her goal was to be a wife and mother. Her passion for music also played a major role, including many years serving at a number of churches as pianist. Charlotte and Bill moved to Gainesville in 1986 and quickly found a home in Lakewood Baptist Church, where they both remained as members until their deaths.
Mrs. Hancock is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Wendell Turner of Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law, Kyle and Lisa Hancock of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Kelley Hancock of Iowa City, Iowa. She is also survived by her eight loving grandchildren; Allen Turner, Whitney Dunlop, Drew Turner, Ben Hancock, Graham Hancock, Liam Hancock, Ezra Hancock, and Griffin Hancock, as well as great-grandchildren, Raleigh Turner, Winnie Turner, and Turner Dunlop. She also loved her sister-in-law, Emily Jones Bredeson, of Macon, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 19, 2025 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Dr. Tyler Smiley, Dr. Tom Smiley and Rev. Don Ormsbee will officiate. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
