Virginia Elizabeth Watkins

Mrs. Virginia Elizabeth Watkins, 90, of Gainesville passed away Friday, January 10, 2025 following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at First Congregational Holiness Church. Mrs. Watkins will lie in state at the church on Wednesday from 1:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Rev. Keith Phagan, Rev. Bobby Griffin and Rev. Scott Ledbetter will officiate. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Born on October 24, 1934 in Fulton County, she was the daughter of the late Fletcher and Zillie Lancaster Turk. Married to the love of her life of 57 years, she was a homemaker and a Great mother, who loved her children and grandchildren. She loved to cook and take care of her children and grandchildren. She ran a home daycare for 36 years. Mrs. Watkins was a member of First Congregational Holiness Church where she volunteered. She enjoyed doing ceramics. She loved to be perfectly dressed and make sure to look her best at all times.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Watkins was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Ray Watkins and son, Joel Watkins; son in law, Kenny Thompson; brother, Lewis Jones and sister, Jewell Jones.

Mrs. Watkins is survived by her daughter and husband, Sharon and Gary Souther of Gainesville; daughters, Sheila Lawson of Austell, Sondra Thompson of Clarkesville; daughter in law, Vicky Watkins of Flowery Branch; sons and spouses, Mark and Linda Watkins of Flowery Branch, Christopher Watkins and Paul Singh of Lilburn; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives.
