Herman Sanders Rice, 80, of Dawsonville passed away Friday, January 10, 2025 at his residence following a period of declining health.
Born May 4, 1944 to the late James and Velma Rice, Herman was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. He worked as a heavy machine operator until his retirement. He loved hunting, fishing, working on machinery and spending time with his family and lifelong friends. Herman was a simple man that loved life and living it his own way. He fought many battles, not in war but in his life. Years from now in Dawson County and surrounding areas if someone mentions the name of Herman Rice some may say they’ve never heard of him, some will say they’ve heard of him but for sure some will say he was a dear friend and might be gone now but will never be forgotten. Herman was preceded in death by his brothers, William, Robert, Johnny, Frank, Tommy and sisters, twins Oleen and Aleen, and Ruby Bolton Watts.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Vondell Rice; son, Clifton Rice (Renee); grandchildren, Dustin Rice, CJ Rice, Trenton Rice, Cecilia Adams (Davon); great-grandchildren, Kaylen, Braylen, Peyton, Kasen, Charley; brothers, Benny Joe Rice, Billy Rice (Teresa); sisters, Gracie Lou Walls, Annie Sue Chester (Jimmy); multiple nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Jimmy Chester will officiate. Interment will follow in Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 11 a.m. until the hour of service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to help offset final expenses.
