Merciel Jones, Jr.

Merciel was born on June 19, 1981, to the late Ruby Jean, and Merciel Jones in Athens, Georgia. The Lord called Merciel home on January 4, 2025. He attended Barrow County Public Schools. After graduation, he was employed by the City of Auburn Public Works Department where he mastered his trade in Heavy Equipment Operations. He later pursued a career as a Commercial Driver accumulating many years of experience on the road, until his health began to decline. He was a great father and pop pop that loved his family. On August 25, 2007, he was married to Janie Deal of Winder, Georgia. Merciel accepted Christ at a very early age. He was a member and played the drums for The Move of God in Winder, Georgia for many years. In his final years he faithfully attended and played the drums for New Salem Baptist Church in Jefferson, Georgia. In Merciel’s spare time he enjoyed spending time with his family, outdoors by his pool, playing the drums, and just making people laugh and smile. Merciel is preceded in death by his parents: Ruby Jean and Merciel Jones. Merciel’s celebration of his life will be remembered by his wife Janie Jones, his two children AuBree Jones, BreAna (Daijon) Levesque and his 3 grandchildren, Noah, Aspen and Jenesis Levesque, his siblings, Ashanda (Walter) Cleveland, Sabrina Jones, Santricia Jones, Dearge Jones, Markez (Angel) Jones, Corie Kelly, Daphine (Bennie) Evans, Charles Pope and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, January 13, 2025 at New Salem Baptist Church, Jefferson, GA at 12:00 PM. Professional Services Entrusted to Wimberly Funeral Home.
