James “Jim” Carl Phillips

James “Jim” Carl Phillips, age 77, of Carnesville, GA. passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Linda Lee Phillips; mother, Evelyn Ray Nichols; father, George Edward Phillips; son, James Phillips, Jr.; granddaughter, Alexis Watson; brother, George Edward Phillips. Mr. Phillips is survived by his children, Evelyn Lee (Anthony) Kaplan of Carnesville, GA, Rose Marie E. Sopo of Canon, GA, Amanda Lynn Phillips of Carnesville, GA; 4 grandchildren, Michael Kaplan, Matthew Kaplan, Brendan Sopo, and Kayla Anne-Marie; 2 great-grandchildren, Harleyanne and Wayne; brothers, Donald Phillips, and Roy Phillips; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jim was born August 5, 1947 in Atlanta, GA and attended Roosevelt High School in Atlanta. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp in Vietnam combat. He worked for USS Steel for 34 years. He served proudly for 54 years for the Loyal Order of the Moose, and was proud of being Pilgrim and past President as well as many other accomplishments with the Moose. Jim was of the Baptist faith and beloved by many.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home, Buford, GA, with Rev. Bobby Brown officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Buford, GA. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 12, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
