Marshall Herren Anderson

Obituary Date: Friday, December 27, 2024

Marshall Herren Anderson of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away on December 27th at Erlanger Baroness Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Marshall spent his final day surrounded by his loving wife, children and grandchildren. A service will be held in celebration of his life and all his accomplishments on Thursday, January 2nd at 1 pm in Gainesville, Georgia at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery. The viewing for friends and family will be at noon on Thursday, January 2nd.

Marshall was born May 26th 1942 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was named after WWII General George C Marshall Junior, which contributed to his affinity for history and his patriotism. Once graduated from high school, he joined the army reserves and married his soulmate, Margaret Ann Williams Anderson. He remained in the Atlanta surrounding suburbs, building a family with Margaret and raising his beloved three children. He devoted his life to being a loyal husband, father, and member of his community. Marshall spent his career being an expert in mechanics and vehicle service. Most of all, he excelled in relationship building with his customers, who always turned into a friend.

Marshall had many joys and hobbies, with a strong emphasis on war memorabilia, model car creation, his animals, and the University of Georgia Football.  Mr. Anderson explored the south searching for historic books, uniforms, artifacts, and filled his prized “war room” full of treasures. He spent many years of his life reconstructing cars and admiring the hot-rod models. He always cherished his dogs and cats, taking in strays whenever they crossed his path. A joy Marshall carried through his entire life was watching the University of Georgia football games, which he enjoyed up until the last week of his life.

Marshall was a Christian man and had an infinite amount of love to give to those around him. He always provided help to those in need, and never expected recognition in return. Some of his most notable acts were always being flexible with his customers in their time of need, driving the elderly in the community back and forth in town, and he purchased roller skates for every orphan at the Methodist Children's Home in Atlanta. Above all, he always gave his full heart and dedication to his children and his wife. He most enjoyed treating his wife like a queen and loving her endlessly. His favorite memories are any day he spent with her.

Marshall is survived by his soulmate Margaret Anderson of Gainesville, Georgia; his children Leigh Anderson of Gainesville, Brent Anderson of Canton, and Ashley Anderson of Villa Rica; his grandchildren McKensie Whitton of Sugar Hill, Talbott and Marshall Anderson of Canton, and Mateo and Julian Anderson of Villa Rica; great-grand child Truett Whitton; his sisters Carol Anderson Kruger and Rebecca Ellen Anderson of Hawkinsville, and Vivian Elizabeth Anderson of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. In addition, he has many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Gone before Marshall in death are Virginia Glynn and William Dudley Anderson, his parents, and Dudley Michael Anderson and Harriett Glynn Anderson, his beloved older brother and sister. The family is receiving flowers through Joyce Merck Florist in Gainesville, Georgia.
