Dorothy Abercrombie

Obituary Date: Monday, December 30, 2024

Dorothy (“Little Granny” or “GiGi”) Abercrombie, 89, joined her heavenly family on December 27th, 2024 after a valiant battle with time. With an artist’s eye and a heart for adventure packed in her tiny frame, Dorothy showed everyone who met her how to live life to the fullest and fiercely protect family. She loved to laugh, paint, make biscuits and pecan pie, bluster about taking on anyone who thought about crossing her grandkids or great-grandkids (especially on a court, field, or diamond), and explore new places while never forgetting her blessings of home.

Born January 7th, 1935 in Hall County, Dorothy often told stories of her childhood, and shared the love her parents, Arnie and Clara Abercrombie, had for the Lord, each other, and their 7 children. Dorothy raised her two girls to follow the same example, and passed on many wonderful traits-- to Barbara (Frank) Grainger Armstrong, an artist’s touch for decorating, sense of adventure and a fierce protectiveness of family, and to Sandy (Jon) Grainger Moore, a practical nature, artistic ability and an impish sense of humor. Dorothy worked at Pinetree for a time, but was most proud of her work as the USPS Postmaster, starting in Murrayville, and also in Tiger, Georgia, where she met her dear companion of 30 years, “Mr. Harry” Resovsky. Together they explored Italy and all the states (except Maine!), lived in Alaska and Colorado, and eventually settled back in North Georgia. Dorothy often had family join her in their adventures.

Even as she was off exploring, Little Granny always made sure to be present in all the big moments for her progeny: Nicole (Frank) Purdy and children Clara and Will, Jeff (Libbie) Armstrong and son Rylan, Greg (Katie) Armstrong and children Wyatt and Charlotte, Adams Sullens and son Michael, and Zeak (Jordan) Black and children Zachary and Thea. Dorothy will be missed by her siblings, Linda Kerns, Brenda Abercrombie, and Jerry (Carolyn) Abercrombie, a host of nieces and nephews, her wonderful caregiver and special friend, Jennifer Burnett, and her sweet canine companion, Gabi. Dorothy joined her siblings Cora Marie and Annette Abercrombie, and Mildred Palmour.

Very few fans can cheer as loudly as Little Granny could in her best days. Even fewer people can bake better biscuits. We can all strive to do a little more of both in her honor.

Join us in celebrating Dorothy’s life at 3:00 PM on Thursday, January 2, 2025 in the Chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM prior to the service.

Special thanks to Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center for the support, care and love of our Mother.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to TLC Humane Society of Lumpkin County.
