Woodson Eugene “Woody” Brown

Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mr. Woodson Eugene “Woody” Brown, age 58, of Jefferson, Georgia who entered rest Sunday, December 29, 2024. Mr. Brown was born in Elberton, Georgia the son of Mary McCannon Roberts of Jefferson, GA and the late Fred Brown.

Woody worked in construction for 30 years and spent the last several years as a correctional officer with the Jackson County Correctional Institute. Throughout both careers, his leadership and commitment earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues. His dedication to doing the right thing and supporting those around him left a meaningful mark on all who knew him.

He was passionate about coaching youth sports and spent many years coaching through the local recreational department. He dedicated countless hours to mentoring and inspiring young athletes, positively impacting the youth community. Woody also enjoyed refereeing high school football with the GHSA, where he continued to share his love for sports and fair competition.

Woody enjoyed camping, fishing, hiking, and exploring the mountains and the beach. Ocean Lakes, a treasured destination, became an annual tradition where he made lasting memories with his family and friends. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Woody especially loved cheering on Georgia football. He also attended Georgia Southwestern college, where he was a proud member of the football team. His time there not only strengthened his love for sports but also fostered experiences that stayed with him throughout his life.

Above all, he loved his family deeply. They were his pride, joy and greatest accomplishment. His honesty, loyalty and unwavering devotion to his loved ones will forever be remembered.

In addition to his mother and stepdad, survivors include his wife, Amy F. Brown of Jefferson, GA. Daughter, Kayla Porter (Chaz) of Jefferson, GA. Two sons, Jake Brown (Laura) of Jefferson, GA, and Todd Brown (Haley) of Freeport, FL. Paw Paw to his ten grandchildren, Mason, Colten, Katelyn, Westlund, Lily, Abby, Chloe, Waylon, Willow and Winsley. Five sisters, Angie Croy (Lewis) of Oakwood, GA, Tammy Cain (Danny) of Dacula, GA, Diane Cofield (Danny) of Winder, GA, Kim Harp of Jefferson, GA and Tracey Sorrow (Jack) of Jefferson, GA. Brother, Dennis Roberts (Jennifer) of Jefferson, GA. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 2, 2025 at Evans Funeral Home Chapel with friend and Deacon, Kevin Ehl officiating. Burial will follow in Evans Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 PM until 8 PM at Evans Funeral Home.

Gentlemen honored as pallbearers are Dennis Roberts, Danny Cain, Jeff Roberts, Danny Cofield, Dave Hodges, John Parrott.
