Mr. Boma Cave Pennebaker, Sr. passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 28, 2024, surrounded by many from his close-knit family. As a Georgia native, fourth of five sons was born in Franklin on May 19, 1949, was a long-time Gainesville resident. He attended North Druid Hills High School prior to attending Mississippi State University on a full track scholarship. Boma was also an Air Force Reserves veteran. He and his beautiful bride and lifelong companion, JoAnne, were married for 33 years until his death.
Boma won the state championship running the high hurdles at North Druid Hills High School, two years in a row. He took his love of track to Mississippi State University where he was a four-year letterman in high hurdles and “M” Club member. Whether it was the thrill of a State victory or the bitter sting of defeat, the MSU Bulldogs were always near and dear to Boma. Boma owned and operated Pasquale's restaurant in Gainesville for 30+ years. He and JoAnne enjoyed traveling the world together, he was an avid golfer, shared regular happy hours with friends and neighbors, and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Always quick with a joke, warm smile, or friendly handshake, he will be remembered lovingly by family and friends alike.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Sarah Evelyn Pennebaker, He is survived by his wife, JoAnne Gray Pennebaker, sons Boma Cave Pennebaker, Jr. (Kathryn), Fredrick Adam Pennebaker (Laura), stepsons Randall Blake Fair (Heather), and John Jason Fair (Jeannie), 15 grandchildren,10 great-grandchildren, four brothers Vachel Pennebaker (Shirley), Ashley Pennebaker, John Pennebaker (Judy) and Jim Pennebaker (Shirley) as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at 9 am, followed by a 10 am Memorial Service on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 - Memorial Park Funeral Home South / 4121 Falcon Parkway, Flowery Branch, GA 30542, with a graveside service at 2 pm in Roopville, Georgia. Roopville City Cemetery, Roopville, GA 30170.
