Mordecai Oneal Wilson, 99, of Lula, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center – Gainesville following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Arthur Jones will officiate. The wake will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home Friday, January 3, 2025 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date in the spring.
Born on March 15, 1925 in Lula, he was the son of the late Alexander and Martha Black Wilson. After attending high school, Mordecai joined the Navy during World War II and served in the Pacific Theatre for three years. After the war, Mordecai continued his service to his country in many capacities. He was a security guard at Regis College in Weston, MA; was in charge of the Mental Health Housing for 25 years; cross country long-haul driver for ten years. During this time he was always striving to learn more and continued his education at Brenau University, Lanier Tech College and taking classes thru the Hall County Sheriff’s Department. Mr. Wilson was on The Lula City Council for 20 years. He attended Mayor’s Conferences in both professional and personal capacities.
Mordecai was the last surviving member of his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Moon Wilson; brothers, Jerome and Ansel and sisters, Gail, Rosalene “Rosie” and Zelda.
Mr. Wilson is survived by his self-adopted family, Paul Haible of San Francisco, CA, John Haible of Arlington, MA, Thomas (Spike) Haible of South Hartswell, MA and Sally Crooker of Wareham, MA; loving caregiver, Ruby Haley of Lula and a number of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives.
