William O. “Bill” Sexton, Jr., 87, of Dawsonville passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at his residence following a period of declining health.
Born August 22, 1937 in Gainesville, Georgia to the late William O., Sr. and Omar Jane Sexton, he had lived in Dawson County for the past 27 years having moved from Enterprise, Alabama. Mr. Sexton retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 with the U. S. Army following 20 years of service. He served as a Huey helicopter pilot in Viet Nam. Following his military service he worked as a Senior District Executive with the Boy Scouts of America for 20 years. A 33rd degree Mason, he was a member of the Etowah Lodge # 222 F&AM and the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter # 970. He served his beloved Dawson County as a member of the committee to erect Veteran Memorial markers along the streets of Dawsonville on Memorial Day, Independence Day and Veterans Day. Bill was a master wood craftsman, enjoyed needle point, cross stitch, and ceramics. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Sexton; sister, Barbara Jane Sexton Hicks; brothers, William Eugene Sexton, Charles Edward Sexton, Harry Truman Sexton, Leroy Sexton; and daughter in law, Sharon Kay Sexton.
Surviving are his wife, Judy Sexton, Dawsonville; children, Cheryl and Ian Eisner, Cumming, Steve Sexton, Franklin, TN, William M. Sexton and Thomas Mears, Cumming, Kirby and Rosina Cowart, Dawsonville, Kevin Cowart, Hapeville, GA; grandchildren, Genevieve and Chris Feller, Jared Eisner, Gabriel Cowart; great grandchildren, Madeline Feller, Zoey Eisner, Parker Eisner, Jaxon Eisner; sister, Martha Hartley; brother, Jerry Sexton; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 2:30 p.m. at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Chaplin Steve Sexton will officiate. Interment will follow in Dawsonville Memorial Gardens with military and masonic honors.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 4 from 12:30 until the service hour.
