Mrs. Hirsch Kennedy Banks, age 90, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2024.
A Celebration of Her Life will be held at Noon, Saturday, February 8, 2025, at First Presbyterian Church, 800 S. Enota Drive NE, Gainesville, Georgia. At her request, an organ concert will precede the service, beginning at 11:30 a.m. A reception will follow the service in Swetenburg Hall at the church. Reverand Shon Peppers and Reverand Lee Koontz will officiate. Music was one of the most important things in Hirsch’s life. Her beloved Dr. Benji Stegner will perform on organ, and her beloved Michael Henry will direct the Chancel Choir of First Presbyterian Church, Gainesville, GA.
Hirsch was born June 7, 1934. She was the daughter of the late Arnold Kennedy and Norma Jeffers Kennedy. She is preceded in death by her brother, David Kennedy.
She is originally from Atlanta, Georgia. She attended Truett McConnell University and graduated from Howard University with a bachelor’s degree. She was an Elementary school teacher and Musician. For many years, she stood by her husband while he pastored Greenwood Baptist Church in Lincolnton, Georgia. While there, she served as music leader and/or pianist. In Gainesville, she taught at Enota Elementary School, Fair Street Elementary School and Centennial Elementary School. Her love of God and music were strong and lasted her entire life. She enjoyed helping with the children’s music ministry and sang in both the Chancel Choir and Prime Time Singers at First Presbyterian Church, Gainesville, Georgia.
Hirsch is survived by her daughter, Jan Banks; brother, Richard (Dot) Kennedy; sister-in-law, Nancy Kennedy; daughter by choice, Sheila (Tracy) Rogers; grandchildren by choice, Sara Kate Rogers and Tyler Rogers (Ashlee Osteen) and great grandson by choice, Huck Rogers and many other family and friends also survive.
