Richard Butler was born on July 25,1936, and passed away on December 20, 2024 at the age of 88. He was a lifelong resident of Dahlonega, Ga. and was of the Baptist faith. He passed away due to a sudden illness. He enjoyed life to the fullest. As a painter and a carpenter, he loved working with his hands. He loved his family very much and enjoyed all the time he got to spend with them. He got a lot of enjoyment from all the long walks he took with his little dog, Dipstick. Richard became a good friend to all who knew him. He will truly be missed by all of those who loved him.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Jean Butler; son Jeffery Butler; parents, William And Loudell Butler; sisters, Willowdean Duran, Betty Reed, Jewell Boulware, and Joyce Frye; brothers Johnny Butler, Carlton Butler, Charles Butler, and Robert Butler; mother-in-law and father-in-law Frank and Artie Ledford; brother-in-laws Clyde Ledford and Claude Ledford; and sister-in-law Brenda Ledford.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Robin Butler; brother Jimmy Butler; sister-in-laws Slyvia Stowers, Geraldine Herrington, and Mildred Castleberry. He is also survived by 2 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 23, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home. The Rev. Lyman Caldwell and the Rev. Wayne McKinney will officiate. Interment will follow in the cemetery of Mt. Olive Baptist Church where he will be laid to rest beside his late wife, Beverly "Jean" Ledford Butler. The family will accept friends at Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home on Sunday, December 22, 2024, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM and on Monday, December 23, 2024, from 11:00 AM until the service hour.
