Cecil G. Davis, age 88, of Buford, GA passed away on Friday, December 20, 2024. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jonah “Buster” and Lucille Jones Davis. Mr. Davis is survived by his wife of thirty-seven years, Betty Sue Mims Davis of Buford; step-children, Meritha (Steve) Sisum of Buford, and John Eric Berry of Douglasville, GA; grandchild, Noah Caspian Sisum; sister, Cornelia Davis Overby of Columbus, GA; nephew, Terry Overby of Columbus; and several cousins. Mr. Davis was born on November 3, 1936 in Montgomery, AL, and was a veteran of the U. S. Army. He was a 1953 graduate of Columbus High School, and a graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelor’s “B S” Degree. He retired after seventeen years of teaching at the Georgia Department of Corrections. Mr. Davis also taught school for thirty years at the Youth Development Center in Milledgeville, GA. He was an active member of Ivy Creek Baptist Church where he was also an active member of True Seekers Sunday School Class there. Mr. Davis was a member of Sons of the Confederacy. He was a historian, loved ancestry, and loved gardening. Plus he was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan! Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 23, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Ivy Creek Baptist Church with Dr. Craig Dale and Rev. Rick Milner officiating. He will Lie in State at the church from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at Heritage Memorial Park in Milledgeville, GA with a Graveside Service at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 27. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday, December 23 from 12:00 noon until time for the service at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ivy Creek Baptist Church Building Fund in memory of Cecil Davis.
