Sherry D. Young Anderson, affectionately known as “Tina,” was born January 9, 1955, in Gainesville, Georgia to the late Willie Ester Young and Minnie Lois Lott Young. One of seven children, Tina learned at an early age the value of family, hard work, and service. She cherished these values until she was called home to eternal rest on December 12, 2024.
After attending East Hall High School, Sherry worked as a long-time employee at Pilgrim’s Pride and a health care worker at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia, before relocating to the Atlanta area where she retired from Emory University Hospital in 2017. Not only did Tina love life and “good” people, but she also had a very deep and personal relationship with God. She began herChristian journey as a young girl at Cross Plains Baptist Church and later became a faithful member of Mount Ephraim Baptist Church where she served under the leadership of Reverend Dr. R.L. White, Jr. In November 2023, she was moved to join Beulah Missionary Baptist Church in Decatur, Georgia where she worshipped, under the direction of Reverend Dr. Jerry D. Black, until she went home to be with the Lord.
To know Sherry was to love her. She possessed a magnetic personality and had such a way with words that people enjoyed being in her company. We often say that when God made her, he broke the mold. Tina never met a stranger, and there was nothing she wouldn’t do to help you if she could. She wore many hats, but her greatestaccomplishment in life was her children and grandchildren or her “7 Grand,” as she liked to call them. They were her pride and joy. She was a loving mother and a tremendous support system to her daughters, T’Asia and Sonya, always offering words of wisdom and teaching them how to navigate life. One of her favorite things to do was to spend time with her “girls,” just laughing, talking, and catching up on what was going on in their lives. It made her heart proud, watching them grow into strong, independent women and devoted, hardworking mothers, themselves.
Although she wasn’t the oldest child, she was “Big Sis” to her brothers and sisters. Sherry was big on family, and she truly enjoyed being around them. To her nieces and nephews, she was the epitome of a “cool auntie.” To her cousins, she was that free spirit who loved life and would try anything once. Tina was extremely intelligent and had a knack for creating solutions to life’s problems. She always relied on her unwavering faith to see her through, and she never took “no” for an answer. Even in trying times, she would always put up a good fight. She was truly one of a kind and will be dearly missed.
Sherry was preceded in death by her late husband, Marion G. Anderson, Jr., her father, Wille Ester Young, and her mother, Minnie Lois Lott Young.
She is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. Cossandra (James) Jackson of Tucker, Georgia and Charla Anderson of Atlanta, Georgia; three brothers, Larry Lipscomb, Adrian (Carolyn) Young of Gainesville, Georgia, and Randall (Kimberly) Young of Atlanta, Georgia; four sisters, Marilyn Lipscomb of Gainesville, Georgia, Vivian Young (Linwood) Sanders of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Connie Young (Thomas) Gardner of Ellenwood, Georgia; 7 grandchildren, Wesley, Jaylon, Areal, Caleb, Zariah, Chase, and Kawhi; a host of nieces, nephews, and other special family and friends. She also leaves to cherish her memory a very dear friend, William (Bill) Crowder of Atlanta, Georgia.
