David Lamar Southers

David Lamar Southers, 69, Royston, GA, passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024, following a brief illness.

Born on June 24, 1955, in Gainesville, GA, Mr. Southers was a son of the late James Carl and Barbara Lee Ober Southers.  He was a retired truck driver, having worked for many years with various companies, including Hollis Transport.  During his latter years, Mr. Southers worked as a truck freight broker with Hollis Logistics Services and as a Parts Manager for Piedmont Tractor & Equipment.  He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Mr. Southers was full of life and loved the outdoors.  Some of his interests over the years included hunting, stock car and drag racing, wood working and most recently - camping with family and friends at Lake Hartwell.  He welcomed everyone with a smile and loved sharing his trucking stories, but more importantly – he loved witnessing to others about Jesus, as well as his Christian faith. 

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Patricia Huggins Southers; daughter, April Murphy, Commerce, GA; son and daughter-in-law, David “DJ” Southers Jr. and Stacy, Gainesville, GA; son, Greg “Brian” Roberts, Gainesville, GA; sister, Janie Southers, Gainesville, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn Collins and Eddie Headrick, Gainesville, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Michael “Mike” Southers and Kim, Gaffney, S.C.; longtime best friend, David Hicks, Dahlonega, GA; one granddaughter, Cayla; two grandsons, Colton and Cooper; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 16^th in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, GA, with Pastor Donnie Hicks officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. prior to the service.
