Rev. Dr. Richard J. Barker entered into the presence of His Lord Jesus Christ 11:49 a.m. on Monday, December 2, 2024, at the Care Center of Good Samaritan Village in Kissimmee Florida.
Rev. Dr. Richard J. Barker was born in Philadelphia, PA on May 13, 1933. He attended a local Christian & Missionary Alliance church and accepted Christ as Savior and was baptized when he was 13 years old. He graduated from Frankford High School in 1951. Having sensed God's call to ministry he attended The Missionary Training Institute in Nyack, NY (more recently known as Nyack College and Alliance University) where he graduated in 1955 with a major in Theology. Further education included courses by extension from Canadian Bible College and Emmanuel Bible College in Canada.
Richard married Peggy G. Tingley in 1954. Peggy predeceased Richard in 2007. They have seven children: Denise, Della, Debbie, Rick, Derilyn, Robert, and Joe. All are followers of Jesus Christ. Rick has been an Alliance pastor, Debbie has been an Alliance missionary with her husband Jon Penland, and Joe with his wife Rhonda are missionaries with Trans World Radio. Richard has 24 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Richard pastored for over fifty years with the Alliance in Ontario, Canada, California, Florida, the Bahamas, and Georgia. He had radio ministries in several pastorates and led
three congregations in major building programs. In addition, he served on District Committees, was District Director of Christian Education in Eastern Canada, and the
Executive Director of Lake Swan Camp in Florida. He was an adjunct professor teaching Comparative Religions at Emmanuel Bible College.
In retirement Richard, was interim pastor for six Alliance churches. At the Good Samaritan Village in Florida, Richard was active in ministries there and served as interim pastor of the Good Samaritan Community Church.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 7, 2024, 2 p.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home, 90 South Pond Street, Toccoa Georgia.
The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Saturday from 12 p.m. until the service time at 2 p.m. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.
Interment service will follow with family present at Stephens Memorial Gardens in Toccoa, Georgia officiated by his family.
