Mr. Roy Lonzo Thompson, age 79 of Akins Bridge Road, Eastanollee passed away Sunday, December 1, 2024 at his residence.
A son of the late Doyle William Thompson and Jane Ruth Simpson Thompson, he was born July 4, 1945 in Stephens County, Georgia where he lived all his life. He was a graduate of Stephens County High School. He was a retired Life Insurance Agent, having worked for Southland Life for many years and later retiring with Woodmen of the World. Upon retirement, he worked part-time with Piedmont Paints. He loved music and was an accomplished guitar player, playing in the band, The Avalons. He enjoyed fishing and watching Georgia football. He was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Ilias Thompson and by a brother, Bill Thompson.
Survivors include his wife and caregiver, Betty Davis Thompson of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Andy and Jessica Thompson of Braselton, Georgia; daughter, Jill Thompson of Martin, Georgia; two grandchildren, Zoey Thompson and McKinzey Thompson; sister, Betty Thompson Burnette of Toccoa; brothers and sister-in-law, Doug and Sherri Thompson of Eastanollee and Ricky Thompson of Eastanollee; a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday, December 6, 2024 at 2 p.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Jerrell Beatty officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Tyler Owenby, Bobby Thompson, Timmy Thompson, Kevin Thompson, Larry Isbell and Stephen Fleming.
The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Thursday, December 5, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter, P.O.Box 2182, Toccoa, Georgia 30577 in memory of Mr. Roy Lonzo Thompson.
Interment will follow in Liberty Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Roy Lonzo Thompson.
