Obituary Date: Thursday, November 14, 2024

Charleston Scott Cooper

Charleston was born in Lawrenceville, GA November 27, 2000. He died in Flowery Branch, GA November 14, 2024. He is survived by his mother, Melissa Cooper, his stepfather, Myron Fancher and stepsister Casey Fancher. He is also survived by his grandparents, Carol Rennert, Angeline Fancher and Nathan and Karen Cooper; aunts and uncles Tammy and Pat Shay, Cheryl and Jimmy Clark, Laura and Keith Pettit, Paul and Kristen Fancher, Christy Spooner, Britt and Becca Mooney and Tim and Tammy Cooper. His cousins: Emaleigh Marsilio (Michael and Gideon), Bryan Pettit (Michelle, Gracie, Cheyenne and Maddison), Daniel Pettit (Gabriela), Audrey Clark, James Pettit (Mary Catherine Long), Olivia Clark, Carolaine Pettit, Matthew Pettit, Cody Cooper, Kaitlyn Cooper, Reiken Spooner, Caelix Spooner, Micah Mooney, Elisha Mooney, Hosanna Mooney and Sydney Fancher. He is preceded in death by his father, Craig Cooper, grandmother Mary Cooper, grandfather Marvin Rennert, great grandmother Willy Adams and grandmother Sarah Finger. Charleston spent his entire life surrounded by and loved by many friends who have become family and contributed to shaping and raising him into the extraordinary young man that he was.

A graduate of North Gwinnett High School (Class of 2019), Charleston was a member of AFJROTC, Band and the Air Rifle Team. His time spent with AFJROTC and Air Rifle friends defined his high school years and provided some of the most cherished memories of his young life. Charleston became a Cub Scout in 2006 as a first grader and was proud to achieve the rank of Eagle during his senior year. Scouting provided a huge education as well as countless friends. Because his mother loved him more than anything on the planet, she was also involved with scouting completely against her will. However, without this experience, the Coopers would never have met The Watson and Kitchen families who took them in and cared for them like family as well as many other Scout Parents and Advisors.

Charleston was born with a love of the water. From swimming to whitewater rafting with scouts to sailing camp to any time spent on Latitude with his beloved family, a day on the water was the best day ever. He was so happy to have achieved his goal of boat ownership and was in the process of restoring his new home Meridian on Lake Lanier.

From a very young age, it became apparent that Charleston was most comfortable and happiest when he was serving others. He had a deep admiration for those serving in the military and he, himself, was very patriotic. Charleston enjoyed any type of community service project, any opportunity to volunteer that would help others. It is no surprise that he made a living in the hospitality industry like his father, Craig. He was personable, hardworking and creative in ways that drew regulars and coworkers to him. We, his family, recognize that this loss will be felt by many.

A memorial service honoring Charleston Cooper will be held Saturday, November 23rd at 2pm at Chestnut Ridge Park on Lake Lanier in Flowery Branch, Georgia.

The service will be outdoors and include a campfire ceremony performed by the Boy Scouts of America. Guests are advised to dress appropriately for the outdoor weather (Bright colors are encouraged. Please wear what makes you happy and comfortable.) Bring a camp chair and lap blanket to enjoy the fireside program.
