Steven D. Bishop

Obituary Date: Tuesday, November 12, 2024

Steven D. Bishop, 75, of Buford, GA, died Tuesday, November 12, 2024. Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 17, 2024 at 2 PM at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel. Pastor Mark Byrd will officiate. Interment will follow at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday, November 17, 2024 from 12 - 2 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the Tunels to Towers Foundation, in memory of Steven.

Steven was preceded in death by his parents, George Bishop and Barbara Denning Bishop; brother and sister-in-law, George and Nadine Bishop; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Sunny Farrell; sisters, Marggie Gunn, Arleta Thompson, Florence Bishop; brothers-in-law, John Markey, Jim Thompson; son-in-law, Scott Rhode, great grandsons Liam and Declan Rhode. He is survived by his wife, Renee Bruce Bishop; children, Terri Hampton, Steven Bishop, Traci Beck (Oliver), Ashley Graham (Matt), Wesley Bishop; grandchildren, Steven, Savannah, Jessika, Blaze, Brayden, Caleb, Shane (Ivanna), Nick (Jessica), Dalton (Aylin), Woodrow, Kathrine, Whitney; great grandchildren, Blaze, Jr., Scarlette, Lenna, Heidi, Levee, River; daughter-in-law, Kate Rodriguez; brothers and sisters, Dale Bishop (Beverly), Dolores Markey, Betty Thompson; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Steven was born in Fort Madison, IA, on August 6, 1949. He graduated from Ft. Madison Senior High School in 1967. He enlisted in the United States Army at age 21 serving for 20 years. He served in the 173rd ABN Brigade, 1st BN 75th Ranger Regiment, 101st ABN DIV, and 82nd ABN DIV retiring at the rank

1 SG. He was an Airborne Ranger, attending the first class in 1971. He went on to become a Ranger Instructor at Camp Frank D. Merrill in Dahlonega, GA where he met and married his wife Renee on June 19, 1983. They were happily married for 41 years. Steve received various medals and awards during his Army career to include several Meritorious Service Medals and Ranger Tab of which his was extremely proud of. Steve retired in 1991 moving to Buford, Ga with his family where he also worked and retired with the US Postal Service in Gainesville, GA.
