Helen “Sandy” Virginia Segars, age 83 of Lula, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2024.
Born on August 11, 1941, in St. Augustine, Florida, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Myrtice Musselwhite Banks. She was of the Baptist faith. Sandy retired from Blue Bell Manufacturing in Homer and later owned the Blue Ridge Fence Company until her passing. She was affectionately known as “Granny” by everyone in the community and was a cherished figure in everyone’s lives. Her brutal honesty and strong will kept everyone, including referees, in line. Her serving heart, authenticity, and exceptional cooking created a legacy of love that will be deeply missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Horice Segars; brother, Charles Banks; and sisters, Margie Johnson, Hazel Starling, Eloise Horne, and Joyce Hansen.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Teresa Segars; grandchildren, Austin Segars (Kalanie Wilson), Blake and Lindsey Segars, and Carley Segars; sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Bill Mosley; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services are 2pm on Friday, November 15, 2024, in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Shannon Rhodes and Rev. Mark Stroud officiating. Interment will follow in Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at the funeral home.
