Ms. Uldine Butterworth Henry

Obituary Date: Sunday, November 10, 2024

Uldine Butterworth Henry, 93, peacefully passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at her Laurel Lodge Senior Living Community residence after a brief period of declining health.

Born on May 17, 1931, in Gainesville, Uldine was the daughter of the late Atkinson McRee “Mac” Butterworth and Agara Emma Edwards Butterworth. She grew up alongside, and is survived by her brother, William “Bill” McRee Butterworth, and graduated from Gainesville High School in 1947. She dedicated more than 30 years of her professional life as a certified paralegal at the law firm of Smith, Gilliam and Williams.

She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Bob Henry. Uldine was a loving mother to three children: Diana Yarbrough (John), Mike Henry (Sarah) and Lisa Prickett (Johnny). Her legacy continues through her seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

From an early age, Uldine was rooted in faith, attending St. Paul Methodist Church during her youth. Later, she became an active member of Central Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was involved in the Women's Missionary Union for many years. She also contributed her time to the Parent-Teacher Association and the Legal Secretaries Association.

Uldine moved to Clarkesville and later to Cleveland, where she became a vibrant member of the Laurel Lodge Living Community. There, she organized weekly card games and earned a reputation as somewhat of a card shark. She was also an avid reader and was a member of several book clubs throughout her life.

The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Laurel Lodge for their attentive care and to Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate support during Uldine's final days.

Interment will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at Alta Vista Cemetery in Gainesville, followed by a memorial service at Cleveland First Baptist Church at 2 p.m. A reception will follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorials should be made to Eagle Ranch at P.O. Box 7200, Chestnut Mountain, GA 30502 or Cleveland First Baptist Church, PO Box 250, Cleveland, GA 30528.
