Betty Jameson Maxwell, age 81 of Toccoa, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away at her home on November 10, 2024.
A daughter of the late Arvel George Jameson, Sr. and Blanche Burrell Jameson, she was born September 11, 1943 in Stephens County, Georgia. She dedicated many years to education, retiring from Stephens County Schools. Serving the students of Big A Elementary as a paraprofessional was a true passion for her, and she treasured her time there. As a devoted member of Shiloh Baptist Church, Betty fondly remembered her time singing in the choir.
In her leisure time, Betty enjoyed playing card games with her family and cherished many trips to Cherokee with James to try her luck at the slots. She loved joy rides with James, admiring God’s beautiful scenery along the way.
Her vibrant sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Whenever we hear the song "You Are My Sunshine," we will remember Betty and the joy she brought into our lives.
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, James Maxwell; her daughter, Denise Stancil, and son-in-law, Deron Stancil; and her cherished granddaughter, Lauren Stancil (Dawson Wheeler). She is also survived by her sister, Linda Sheriff, along with many nieces, nephews, and their children.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Arvel and Blanche Jameson; her sister Patty Sue Mercier (Ambrose); her brother Junior Jameson; and her brother-in-law William Sheriff.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at Stephens Memorial Gardens, 3650 Highway 17, Toccoa, Georgia with The Reverend Craig Brown officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Shiloh Baptist Church, P.O. Box 638, Toccoa, Georgia 30577 in memory of Betty Jameson Maxwell.
Interment will follow in the Stephens Memorial Gardens with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in charge of the arrangements for Betty Jameson Maxwell.
