Anna Marie Brown Smith Maness
Devoted mother, grandmother, and friend
Anna “Marie” Brown Smith Maness, affectionately known as Mawmaw, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 8th surrounded by her loving family. Marie was born in Campbellsville, KY, on September 12th, 1934 to Mr. Wes Brown and Mrs. Ollie Brown. She was one of 5 children.
Marie was a beloved mother to 4 children, Mike, Terry, Donna, and Todd. Everything she worked for, she had them at the center of it all. She was the proud owner of Town & Country Restaurant and a homemaker while residing in KY.
Marie and her loving husband, Jay lived in Gainesville, Ga. Jay and Marie were the best of friends, who loved life together. They loved to travel. She was an avid member of Riverbend Baptist Church and recently moved to North Hall Church. She worked for Home Federal, formerly known as Suntrust, as a caterer for many years. This was one of her favorite things to do! She was able to travel to new locations, meet new people, and decorate all of which were passions of hers. Marie never met a stranger and also knew how to brighten everyone’s day. She loved to work outside in the yard and always had the most amazing flower bed you have ever seen. Even though she loved her house on the hill in Oak Harbor, those squirrels almost drove her crazy! She loved Elvis and we could always count on her to be playing his music.
As she became a grandmother, her love for her grandchildren shined in all facets of life. She was so proud to be able to take them places and to have them around. You could always guarantee she would bring them up in every conversation with so much love and pride that she could burst. She was their biggest cheerleader and their shoulder to cry on.
She has been a resident at the Gardens of Gainesville. There she was known as “hummingbird”. Marie was loved by all the staff and residents, and she loved them equally.
Marie is survived by her children, Mike (Kathy) Smith, Donna Smith Hulsey, and Todd Smith; her daughter-in-law, Martha Parrott Smith, six grandchildren, Jason Smith, Shane Smith, Lisa (Rob) Thomas, Olivia (Kreed) Coley, Kaitlyn (Jonathan) Peppers, and Walker Smith; 5 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, her lifelong friends, Jerald and Doris Sargent, and her best friend, Blue.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Wes & Ollie Brown, her husband, Jay Maness, and her son, Terry Smith.
Although she is rejoicing in heaven with her family and friends, she will be dearly missed. Her celebration of life will be held at Little-Davenport Funeral Home in Gainesville, Ga on Wednesday, November 13, 2024. The visitation will be held from 10-12 p.m. with the service to follow in the Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Bucky Kennedy officiating. Interment will follow at Alta Vista Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be sent to North Hall Church in support of their church ministries.
