Darlena Joan (Summers) Lord passed away surrounded by her family on November 7th after a long and fulfilling life. She was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada to Mark and Minnie Summers on May 25, 1951. She was the oldest of 3 children, and moved to Buford when she was in 10th grade. After graduating from Buford High School, she married her high school sweetheart, Tony Lord, on June 13th, 1970. They raised two wonderful boys together, Mark and Nathan. In 1993, Darlena returned to the Buford City School system as an employee, and retired from her position as bookkeeper in 2014.
Darlena also utilized her gifts of singing and piano playing at the Buford Church of God, and she often directed the choir. Those closest to her were blessed by her strong faith in Christ, her loving and caring nature, and her incredible sense of humor. She was known for her quick wit and delicious cooking and baking, and she loved to sew. She served others and met their needs at every opportunity, and touched many lives with her generosity and kindness.
Darlena is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Tony; her sons Mark and Nate; her daughters-in-law Dell Dougherty Lord and Suzanne Kinnick Lord; her grandchildren, Sara (Garrett) White, Jesse (Lilly) Lord, Jordan Lord and Jack Lord; her great grandchildren Tessa White, Ella White, Nora White, Lila White, Arabella Lord, Valley Lord, Holland Lord, Mark Lord; sister Sherry Neill Horton; her nieces Shelly Allen and Andrea Benson; and her sisters-in-law Barbara Summers, Charlotte (Kenneth) Allen and Cindy (Keith) Pass. She is preceded in joining the Lord by her mother and father, Rev. M.G. and Minnie Summers, and her brother Lynn Summers.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at 3:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Pastor John Wood of Grove Level Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens in Buford, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, November 9, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Sunday, November 10 from 1:00 p.m. until time for the service at 3:30 p.m.
