Mr. John William Wilson, age 89 of McFarlin Boulevard, Carnesville, Georgia passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Athens, Georgia.
A son of the late Verner Lee Wilson and Mary Sosby Wilson, he was born August 19, 1935 in Fair Play, South Carolina having lived in Stephens and Franklin Counties for most of his life. He was a retired Veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during the Vietnam War. After his retirement from the service, he later worked with Robertson Furniture where he retired. He was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Verner Wilson, Jr., Joe Wilson and Charles Wilson and by four sisters, Martha Owens, Laverne Prickett, Virginia Kesler and Sara Wilson Babson.
Survivors include his wife of the home, Floy Murray Wilson; daughter and son-in-law, Greta and Bill Burke of Carnesville; son, Grover Wilson of Toccoa; grandchildren, Billy and Sierra Burke, Leah Burke, Kylie Wilson, Matthew Wilson and Jonathan Wilson; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Sharon Wilson of Toccoa; two sisters, Katherine Wallace of Huntsville, South Carolina and Patsy Macomson of Augusta, Georgia; a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Sunday, November 10, 2024, 3 p.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church with The Reverend Joey Stewart and The Reverend David Sosebee officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Bill Burke, Billy Burke, George Cornette, Matthew Wilson, Jonathan Wilson and Rod Farrow.
The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Saturday, 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.

Interment will follow in the New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with Mr. Grover Wilson officiating.
